Our 1st regular class at Westlake Dance Center tonight!

2 posts. 1 day. 1 woman.  10 fingers. 2 feet. 6 foreheads (well I have a “6 head”)

Yay.  2nd blog of the day.  I just have to…i’m excited.  For both this blog thang and Nick and I’s 1st WDC class. Nick is my HUSBAND beeteedubs.

We are finally teaching at Westlake Dance Center!  We never TRIED to teach there before, probably because we weren’t ready.  I started taking class there as a hopeful “new” dancer…hmm maybe in 2001?  Well not new to dance, but new to the “dance studio world”.

It’s a whole different world….really.  Also, dancers are not real people.  We’re aliens.  (we’ll get into that later)

Okay so here is a synopsis of how our “dance career” began:

I heard of WDC through Nick…not sure how he found it.  So, At WDC I took Daniel Cruz’s infamous Hip Hop classes…from duh, the infamous Daniel Cruz.  I also took a couple jazz classes from Kristen Cooper!  I’ve grown a lot since then and I owe a good portion of that growth to Westlake, the students, and the instructors there for the inspiration.

Before WDC we had already been dancing with kaSAma, Kultura, as well as school related dance groups and Cheer.  However it was through WDC that I began dancing with with Cruz Control and Nick with In Effect…a little more professionaly motivated.  It was partly because of WDC that we decided to take our training and passion to the next level.

We received minors in Dance at University of WA!  THEN…Nick and I both moved to LA to further our DANCE EXPERIENCE…and well…LIFE EXPERIENCE.

In LA we helped start a dance company called BREED and became Breed’s Directors of Choreography.  We got agents and started auditioning.  Nick and I danced with Expressive Doubt and I danced with Essence!  We began teaching regularly at Focus Dance Center and Jayvee Dance Center.

Nick and I became a busy choreography and teaching duo which is exactly what we wanted to be. :o )

We moved back to Seattle on June 10, 2008 to prepare for our wedding :o ) and start fresh in our beloved hometown.  TWO OH SICKNESS!!!  We are a little nervous because we’re not that “connected” to the scene out here anymore.

So what I’m trying to say is that we traveled a LONG way in a BIG CIRCLE to get back to WDC.  It sounds like we didn’t get anywhere because we’re back where we started.  But in reality, we are not in the same place…not at all.  We on a whole new level son!!! ha.

Let’s see what happens tonight.  Hopefully we get a good size class.  :o

Cross your fingers!!  And please, if you like to dance…come take our class.  You’ll like it.

We’re teaching an oldie but goodie.  Gotta review it still.  YIKES!

    Hey Anna!

I’m actually a fan of blogs, journaling, and anything that allows one to express through
words. I really enjoyed reading your blogs, or the 2 that exist so far =)

Its so nice to hear about you and Nick’s journey so far. From starting in Seattle, to the move
to Los Angeles, and then now being back in Seattle not only married, but dancing still. It
definitely inspires me in more ways than one. I’m so glad that Seattle is able to get a taste
of you guys. I was apart of the new wave that came in after a lot of the older dancers
left WDC and the dance groups up there.

I’m excited to see where your guys dance classes go. I’m sure that the dancers up there are
going to enjoy your guys style. Seattle’s very own duo at it again. I’m excited to see videos,
pieces from shows, and everything else that will open up for you two in Seattle.

Hopefully when I come home I can take class and hang out sometime.

    Miss you guys!
